Recommendations Announced in Conclusion of Aqdar World Summit in Year of Zayed

United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, 28 November 2018: The second edition of ‘Aqdar World Summit’ that was held under the theme “Role of Human Empowerment in Developing Stable Societies: Sustainable Development”, concluded today in the capital city of Abu Dhabi, featuring a number of local regional, and international participants. The summit was held in corporation with international partners included, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNDOC), The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and a number of academic institutions, international research centers and civil society institutions as well as relevant regional and international bodies. The Summit was also attended by participants representing different trends on global sustainable development issues.

On its third day, the Summit featured a number of workshops that tackled various pressing matters and helped increasing awareness of the importance of sustainable development goals and their impact on the empowerment of people as well as ensuring the stability of societies and their internal and external security to support them to be active members in the international community.

In its final day, the participants praised the efforts of the United Arab Emirates under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE to promote the culture of human empowerment and associated strategic visions that promote stability, security and national and international peace, as well as its keenness to promote joint international and humanitarian action to spread the values of human brotherhood and global partnership, thanking the United Arab Emirates for hosting this summit.

The participants also recalled the efforts of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the United Arab Emirates, and the man of "empowering humanity" everywhere, who devoted his life to establish a conscious strategic pattern based on the potential human capacity to build and protect the society. The summit also called everyone to benefit from the experience of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan in building and empowering the human being as a methodological and intellectual framework and a realistic experience that has its manifestations in our current life.

The Summit emphasized the importance of the efforts and achievements of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces to carry through the path of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in strengthening the status of the human being and enable them to build a safe future for generations that are more aware of the importance of stability and security as well as building a global human civilization that unites all and provides positive coexistence and equality of opportunities and possibilities.

The participants also thanked H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, for his patronage, support and constant follow-up which had a prominent role in making the Summit a success and achieved its lofty goals.

The summit also featured a number of discussions where more than 21 scientific papers, 7 major sessions, 25 workshops and youth circles were held on sustainable development goals and the extent to which these goals were achieved. The summit tackled in particular the role of human empowerment as it’s the key to achieve the objectives and purposes of these goals, whether at the national or global level, as well as the political, social and humanitarian levels.

At the end of the three-day summit, the participants agreed to issue the "Declaration of Aqdar World Summit” on Human Empowerment and Community Stability in the year of Zayed, which was delivered by Noura Abdel Aziz Alhajri of the Youth Council, addressed to governments, countries, communities and relevant institutions. This declaration highlights the outcomes of “Aqdar World Summit”.

The declaration called for the need to provide the scientific and intellectual references on which the sustainable development goals were established on, to facilitate access to them and to link these references to the global human thoughts, whether religious, philosophical or scientific, and to adopt these goals as the cornerstone of a constructive global unity based on empowering minds and freeing them from the shackles of extremism.

The declaration also called for the need to strengthen the principles, culture and values of partnership and responsibility among governments, private institutions and civil society institutions to open the horizons of cooperation for a deeper understanding of sustainable development goals as a global compass for wise humanitarian leadership.

The declaration addressed governments and relevant institutions to develop educational, intellectual and discussion programs to address sustainable development goals and their impact on human empowerment and to examine their impact on building stable societies capable of dealing with different challenges.

It also called all institutions related to sustainable development, both governmental and private, to look deeply into the periodic publications of United Nations to monitor the progress of achieving these goals by disseminating these publications and their results to their society and integrating them as part of their institutional culture and awareness plan.

Furthermore, the Declaration stressed the need to launch intellectual initiatives that discuss "Role of Human Empowerment in Developing Stable Societies: Sustainable Development" around the world and in various academic and research institutions, and study the role of these goals in enhancing human capacity to deal with changes and developments to ensure the societies stability and security without exaggeration or extremism.

The Declaration also referred to the integration of sustainable development goals into educational curricula and awareness programs at national levels in all educational stages, and enhancing the roles of governments, private institutions and civil society institutions in achieving them, thus ensuring the development of a constructive relationship between governments and societies.

It also adopted the idea of creating a global open discussion platform that includes officials, experts, specialists and people concerned with sustainable development, as well as youth, to discuss the feasibility and importance of these goals and the progress in achieving them.

He also called for benefiting from the high-level humanitarian experience of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in enabling people to find the appropriate mechanisms for circulating the experience of the world's most respected summit and its possible activities.

In the end, the call for the formation of an international committee comprising a number of participants and representatives of the summit’s partners to follow up the implementation of the outcomes of the summit and the development of plans and operational programs.
